Member Presentation by Leah Morrigan
At the first Experion meeting of 2019, on her first day as an Experion member, Leah Morrigan presented on the Importance of Men’s Tailoring. A Men’s Image Consultant with a mind for science and engineering, she explained how commercial clothing patterns might be efficient, but do a disservice. People are not symmetrical, and this affects the way clothing hangs from our bodies. This can affect how we feel and how we are perceived.
To illustrate, Leah imposed a pattern square onto a client photo to find that one shoulder was higher and the other shorter. The result was that one shoulder appeared to be sloped and longer. She explained that the man’s shoulders affect his shirt and jacket fit, and this is where tailoring comes in – to fit the garment to the body.
Leah discussed the psychology of shape. She asked members to think of words to describe images of a man in a suit that is too large, and then the same man in a suit that fit. Members recognized that fit did indeed influence their perceptions.
Leah showed that wearing well-fit clothing can increase self-esteem, confidence, and credibility. Working with an image consultant, who can get you in the right clothes to make the best impression, adds smart, savvy value and helps protect one’s wardrobe investments.
